Sanaz B is an Iranian Baha'i woman who has experienced systematic persecution, as well as gender apartheid in Iran.
As a survivor of relentless oppression, she composes pieces that emphasize the oneness of humanity, gender equality, and unity.
Her love of building vibrant communities and her background in architecture equipped her to use her creative voice as a tool for societal progress and spiritual upliftment.

Lover of Light

Have you ever imagined yourself living in the dark ages, thinking what would happen to you? Or even what would you do?Don’t worry if you haven't; as someone who lived it, I can give you a sense of what it looks like. It might not look dark in a physical manner, but there is no source of moral and or spiritual light there, which is what makes it dark. The denial of light, the ignorance towards love, and the man-made roles of supremacy that divide people and put them against each other are what hinder the light and make a period the darkest age. We know the sun won't stay behind the clouds. History has shown us that it would not remain the same either, whether the time it was happening in Europe or nowadays when it is happening in Iran. That is what makes it important for each one of us to think of what we can do. How can we spread our love to humanity because love is the light that guides us in the darkness? I made these pieces once I read, “Like a moth, one must be a lover of the light, in whatever lamp it may shine,” with the will to remind and encourage each of us about the importance of love. Hope you find it the same way.

Peace will not happen unless people stand firm side by side and work for equality and freedom as one. When the brave Ukrainian lady said, "Take these seeds, so sunflowers grow here when you die." it made me think, "If I'm not doing anything for the betterment of the world, I should at least carry some sunflower seeds with me." I decided to put these building blocks beside each other as if they were human beings in the way we should care about each other as members of one family. By adding each piece, I died of shame, and Sunflowers, symbols of peace and resistance, grew here in my #SolidarityWithUkraine I also died every time I saw Iranian girls and boys, young and old, risking their lives and asking for the equality of men and women. Despite their differences, they are holding each other's hand, just like these interlocked building blocks, and chanting woman, life, freedom with the hope that the world's people will support their human rights because our story is one. #WomanLifeFreedom

Constructive Resiliency

"You can kill me as soon as you like, but you cannot stop the emancipation of women." These were Tahirih's last words before her execution on account of unveiling her face and her Babi faith in the middle of 19th century Persia. Although in the next few hours, her body was pushed into a hollow well, and rocks were thrown on top of it, her example of resilience, bravery, and strength continues to this day every time a girl gets arrested for her hijab or executed for her beliefs. Tahirih, the first Persian feminist pioneer, emerged like the first lotus in the muddiest water and caused a continuous generational growth of women's rights and freedom which inspired me to make this lotus as a symbol of her constructive resiliency.
